Cedarwood is the best ever! It is my favorite smelling oil; one whiff and I instantly relax! Lavender is the most famous oil for being relaxing, but there is something about Cedarwood that just makes me melt. I also think it smells incredible! Its scent is sweet and woodsy; reminiscent of the tall, strong trees that it comes from. Cedarwood oil is steam distilled from the bark of the Cedar tree, which is part of the pine family.
In addition to smelling incredible, Cedarwood is also
- Used for relaxation and a good night’s sleep*
- Great for supporting healthy skin (for people with dry skin)*³
- Used for focus
- Supports healthy hair follicles*¹
- The tree mentioned most in the Bible – the Cedars of Lebanon
- Considered the Lord’s tree, “The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the Cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted” KJV.
Cedarwood stimulates the pineal gland*, which releases melatonin, making it the perfect oil to add to your nighttime routine to assist in a good night’s rest. You can sprinkle a couple of drops right onto your pillow and sheets, rub it onto the collar of your p.j.s or your chest, and/or add it to your bed-side diffuser. For a coma-like sleep, my favorite diffuser blend is:
Cedarwood is used in many of Young Living’s personal care products and is most beneficial to those with dry skin. However, Cedarwood is most known for potentially being beneficial with hair growth and supporting hair follicles!*³
Why does our hair seem to thin as we age? Did you know that when you are born you have all of the hair follicles you’ll ever have? You have around 100,000 in your scalp; that’s a lot on a tiny baby, but as we grow, our scalp stretches but we do not gain more hair follicles; hence, our hair looks thinner. Hair loss can also be a result of stress, hormonal imbalance, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, and plain ole genetics. When a strand of hair falls out, a new one typically begins to grow in the same follicle, however hair growth can decrease if DHT (a hormone) is too high.¹ But don’t hurry off to the wig store just yet! Cedarwood may help stimulate hair growth!*¹ Try this at-home nourishing hair treatment² and let me know how it works for you!

Since Cedarwood is relaxing, it is also great for focus. It allows you to slow down and focus on the task at hand. This is especially true when it is added to your diffuser. When inhaled, the oil particle travels directly to your brain causing you to instantly relax and focus.
I use Cedarwood every night to help me sleep, and I use it in my hair after every shower! It’s one I always have in my oil arsenal. What do you use Cedarwood for?
